2014 Drake University Summer Music Institute
Iowa Comprehensive Musicianship Project (CMP)
What is CMP?
CMP is a planning process, not a curriculum. The CMP model (music selection, analysis, outcomes, strategies, assessment) aligns perfectly with the Iowa Core, which schools throughout the state are mandated to implement. Our CMP team can guide you with concrete ways of thinking and planning that insure inclusion of the Iowa Core concepts in your music classes and performing ensembles.
Music educators learn the CMP process at a four-day workshop offered at Drake University. The workshop consists of demonstration rehearsals and classes, presentations, and small group discussion, as well as substantial time devoted by each participant to the formulation of a teaching plan usable in the coming school year.
The CMP process can assist teachers in:
- selecting good repertoire
- planning effective rehearsals, classroom activities and concerts
- clarifying long-range goals and short-term objectives
- developing new teaching strategies
- applying appropriate assessments of the learning process.
- portfolio development
- experiencing a higher level of personal and professional satisfaction
